How It Works
The East Sussex Children's Book Award 2026 is enjoyed by children aged 8 – 11 years, but everyone - teachers, parents, grandparents, carers and book lovers can take part!
Encourage your school to take part, borrow the books from the library and enter the competitions.
In May 2026 you can vote for the winning book!
The Shortlist 2026

Enjoyed the shortlist? Get your creative juices flowing and enter our competitions!
Our competitions are a fun way for children to get involved with the Book Award.
Children can write a book review, create a piece of art and produce some creative writing inspired by the shortlisted books.
The competition entries are judged by our librarian team and winners will receive a bag of books and a certificate. We also award certificates to highly commended entries.
