We are delighted to welcome Dame Jacqueline Wilson to Lewes Library to celebrate ‘The Family from One End Street’ by Eve Garnett. This classic story of a working class family was awarded the Carnegie Medal as the best children's book of 1937. Still in print, the author’s illustrations show recognisable locations in Lewes, where she lived for many years.
Dame Jacqueline will talk about the importance of the book to her, and how Eve Garnett’s work has influenced her own stories. There will also be plenty of time to ask Jacqueline questions and an opportunity to get books signed.
The celebration and signing will be followed by the chance to find out more about the story’s settings with a short presentation by Mary Burke, who has led may local history walks in Lewes.
This event is being held in partnership with The Lewes Lit who will be having an adult event celebrating Eve Garnett at The All Saints Centre on 26 January.
