Join local author, Tim Cornish, for a fascinating insight into the High Weald during medieval times; from its landscape, to its economy and local people's way of life. Learn more about how unequal society was, from Lords and Archbishops to serfs, freemen and widows - this was a time that contrasted great poverty with great riches.

This event is free but booking is essential. There's no need to be a library member to take part.

Copies of Tim's book 'Medieval Mayfield: Archbishops and Peasants' will be available for purchase on the day for anyone who might wish to buy.

We are excited to be hosting Jyoti Patel at Hastings Library this autumn.

Jyoti is a previous winner of the #Merky Book New Writer of the Year award for her debut novel, The Things That We Lost. The competition aims to discover unpublished, underrepresented writers from across the United Kingdom and Ireland and includes among their judges, Stormzy.

The novel is a beautifully written tale told from the perspectives of 18-year-old Nik and his British Indian mother, Avani, alternating between the past and present as Nik searches for answers about his father’s death.

Join us on 23 October as Jyoti, named by The Observer as one of the best new novelists of 2023, as she talks about her acclaimed debut title and her journey to becoming an author.
