The Hastings fishing community has been in existence for over a thousand years. It is a community that is on the edge of extinction. Their work is very tough and often dangerous, caught in gale force winds, their boats swamped and in danger of sinking, unsure whether they’ll make it back ashore.
Join professional photojournalist John Cole, who has been documenting this community since 1991.
John Cole has been a professional photojournalist for over forty years. Along with photographing the Hastings fishing community, he has photographed the building of the Jerwood Gallery and the re-building of our beloved Pier.
