Born in Portsmouth in 1866, Eliza grew up in a Coastguard family living in the cottages at Cliff End until her father reitred and they moved to Pevensey Sluice. She married James Veness, a Hastings fisherman in 1885. She started writing poetry just after the Great War. These poems have been collated by members of her family.
