The Battle tapestry : a visual history of the town of Battle 1066-1115

This is the remarkable story of the creation of the Battle Tapestry which continues the existing Bayeux Tapestry, the end of which is lost. It shows the creation of the small Sussex town named Battle that was named after its Abbey, itself named to commemorate the battle fought there in 1066. The making of the tapestry was a communal effort, imagined and brought together by the author. It required considerable artistic and stitching skills and caught the interest of the public during the year in which Britain celebrated the 950th anniversary of the Norman Conquest, so much so that 741 people at various times joined in the stitching. The new tapestry is now to be seen in St Mary's church in Battle and will be a long-lived tribute not only to the families depicted but to those who conceived, planned and created it.
