Hastings during world war one

Books, Manuscripts
This book tells the story of the daily life of a seaside resort, not the major battles of the First World War. Hastings did not have a military presence or industry to meet the needs of war. Importantly, what it did have was accommodation and, being a health resort, convalescent facilities. Being close to the ports it played host to thousands of troops who were billeted in town awaiting their departure. Within weeks the casualties and refugees from Europe started to arrive bringing new challenges.
